A shot in the dark…

I can remember even when I was young, every Christmas break watching Oklahoma State play in whatever bowl game they made it to that year. I grew up wearing orange even though no one in my family had ever attended the school. My dad had friends that played football at OSU and they would come watch OSU football at our house, and one even gave me a pair of OSU sweatbands that he wore in an OSU football game. So naturally, at the end of my senior year of high school, Oklahoma State University seemed like the right place to go. I thought it was a lofty goal considering I was the first person in my family to go to college. While most of my graduating class went to the 13^th grade of Kingfisher High School at he University of Central Oklahoma, I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and head to Stillwater.

This Christmas break I will be traveling to whatever bowl game we make it to. I will cheer my last OSU football game as the captain of the OSU cheer squad.

The day I walk across the stage to receive my diploma from Oklahoma State Universitywill be the proudest day of my life. Most people have the privilege of saying how their brothers and sisters, parents and grandparents graduated from OSU before them but I do not. Not only am I the first person in my family to go to OSU, I am the first person in my family to go to college at all. After high school, college just seemed like the next step. My parents had been fans of OSU athletics my entire life, and my best friend was coming to OSU so I decided that’s where I need to go. When I first began my Journey through college, I was merely waiting to fail. My first semester was horrible and I got threatened to move back home if I didn’t drastically improve my grades. Fortunately my grades improved, and the next year I decided to try out for the Cheer squad. I had never cheered a day in my life, but I had been tumbling every since I could remember. Cheerleading turned out to be my saving grace. To be active on the Cheerleading you had to maintain a certain GPA. Had I not become involved with cheerleading at OSU I would most definitely failed out of school. I started college just waiting to fail and today I’m one semester away from graduating with a double major, and as the captain of the Cheer Squad here at Oklahoma State. So to wrap it up I guess earning an OSU degree means accomplishing thing I couldn’t even thing of doing 5 short years ago. I could not have planned a better college experience, and I can say that I am very proud of myself.

Journalism is an excellent field of study for students to consider. There are so many job opportunities that can be pursued with a journalism degree. The opportunity to be creative is the main reason I chose a degree in Journalism. Oklahoma State University has an outstanding faculty in the School of Journalism and Broadcasting.

….like jumping into a black hole

The year 2008 is coming to an end about as fast as it can. I’m graduating in May of 2009, and if next semester flys by half as fast as this one, it should be here in a few weeks or so. When asked the question: how I feel about graduation?… I wish some more definite feelings came about. With graduation soon approaching and me still not knowing what I’m going to do with my future is a little scary. On the other hand, not having anything planned for my future is a little refreshing. Since I was 4 years old I have been on someone else’s schedule. Wake up and go to school, practice this, play these sports, join these clubs, attend these meetings….for once in my life I can do WHATEVER I want with my life. I could move to China and teach children English, I could move across the country and start the career of my dreams, or I could do a couple of internships in the Oklahoma City Area and live with my best friend for another year. Evan though I’m probably going to stick with the last one, knowing I have the option to do anything is pretty exciting!
